When resting or sleeping, some species can hold their breath for up to seven hours! Their slowed heart rate allows them to survive long dives without surfacing for air.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 2. Their Shells Are Covered in Nerve Endings<\/strong><\/p>\n Despite being hard, a turtle\u2019s shell has nerve endings, meaning they can feel touch and pressure. So, next time you see one, remember that a turtle can sense a gentle brush against its shell and feel disturbed.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 3. Sea Turtles Have Been Around Since the Age of Dinosaurs.<\/strong><\/p>\n These ancient reptiles have survived mass extinctions and drastic climate changes. Fossil evidence suggests that sea turtles have remained relatively unchanged for over 100 million years, making them living fossils.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 4.
