The PADI IDC is a 10-day course that filled with serious fun! The program will prepare you to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.

PADI OWSIs can teach all of PADI’s core courses from Open Water to Divemaster. Even some specialty courses like ‘Peak performance buoyancy’ and PADI AWARE programs.

PADI IDC
To become a PADI OWSI you’ll need to complete the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)
The IDC is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification. Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification.
Most important prerequisites to enroll in the IDC are:
- A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months.
- At least 60 logged dives and 100 dives to attend an IE.
- Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months.
- A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
- You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor, but you can earn this rating during your IDC.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Start at home
You can start your PADI IDC online from your home. With the IDC Digital eLearning you can optimally prepare yourself for the PADI Instructor course!
In addition to that, Asia Scuba Instructors offer unique online learning tools to study dive theory and make practice exams.
Classroom sessions
- You will see presentations about Marketing, Risk Management, PADI Standards and more.
- You will learn how to organize and conduct PADI Programs including Discover Scuba Diving, Open Water Course, Advanced Course, Rescue Diver Course and Divemaster Course.
- You will learn how to do a classroom presentation “PADI style”
Pool sessions
- You will practice all skills from the PADI Open Water Course, Advanced Course and Rescue Course. “Demonstration quality”.
- You’ll learn how to teach PADI courses in the ‘pool or confined water’ in practical workshops. How to do briefing and debriefing, correct your students mistakes, how to position your students and much more.
Open water sessions
- You will learn how to teach PADI courses in the ‘open water’. How to do a briefing , controlling your students in open water, taking care of the environment, using your Divemaster etc.
- You will do a workshop on how to conduct Discover Scuba Diving in open water.
- You will do a workshop on teaching skills from the Advanced Open Water course.
- You will take part in a Rescue Scenario to practice your rescue skills.
Instructor Exam
During two days and in a very relaxed atmosphere you can show the PADI Examiners what you’ve learned in the IDC! There are four segments in the exam.
