ABOUT KOH LIPE

Koh Lipe is a small island in the south Andaman sea on the west coast of Thailand. It is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park and measures only 2km long and 1 km wide.

The island is known for its white sandy beaches, turquoise blue waters, so some people refer to it as the ‘Maldives of Thailand’.

Koh Lipe is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park, a large group of over 70 islands, and also part of a smaller cluster of islands called the Butang Islands or Adang Archipelago.

The the Tarutao National Marine Park is famous for some of the best dive sites in Thailand.

Island atmosphere

The vibe around Koh Lipe is very chilled and you can easily walk between the different beaches. At night, the Walking Street emerges as a popular destination, boasting an abundance of restaurants and cool bars.

Those wanting to relax, can enjoy a cheap cocktail in one of the beach bars, while watching the sunset.

Food

If you love Thai food, you will love Koh Lipe. There are many small restaurants where you can enjoy a Thai curry or papaya salad.  If you are a little bit less adventurous, Koh Lipe offers a wide range of western restaurants too.

Locals

Koh Lipe is home to some of the friendliest people you’ll meet in Thailand. The slightly remote location of the island means the people from Koh Lipe form a tight community and help each other. Here you will truely see why Thailand is called ‘the land of smiles’.

Amazing sunsets

Sunset beach is a small, tranquil beach on the northwest side of the island with a lagoon and large boulders. As the name says, it’s an amazing spot to see a beautiful sunset while hanging in a beanbag in one of the restaurants or beach bars. If you are lucky and stay in one of the resorts on this beach, you can watch the sunset from your porch!

How to get there

From November until April Koh Lipe can be reached by boat from Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and several islands in the Andaman Sea with daily ferries to and from all locations From May to November.

Pak Barra is the main ferry hub for Koh Lipe, with ferries running all year. It takes 2 hours to travel by minibus from Hat Yai to Pak Barra.
