IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR
Become a leader in the diving industry!
PADI IDC Staff Instructor is a highly regarded qualification in the diving industry. As an IDC Staff Instructor, you can independently teach PADI Assistant Instructor courses as well as assist with IDCs and other instructor-level courses.
In many dive centers IDC Staff Instructors act as senior Instructor or assistant-manager.
Before you start
You need to :
- Be a teaching status PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer.
- Be an EFR Instructor.
- Have a medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.
You should have up-to-date theory knowledge and exemplary dive skills. On the IDCS pre-assesment you will complete a skill circuit and a dive theory exam.
Auditing an IDC
During the IDC Staff Instructor course, you will audit an entire IDC. You will learn how to score Instructor candidates on their skill performance and teaching abilities, but auditing an IDC is about much more than that.
Together with your Course Director you will coach the Instructor candidates towards a successful IE and you will learn to use your experience in the diving industry to motivate and support beginning diving instructors.
This is very valuable in your work in your dive center. As an IDC Staff Instructor you will be regarded as a senior instructor and a mentor for less experienced staff members.
IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR COURSE
Pre-assesment
- Complete the 5 segments of the divetheory exam with a score of at least 80%.
- Complete the PADI Standards exam with a score of at least 80%.
- Perform all 24 dive skills in the Skill Evaluation, scoring 96 total points, with no
individual score below 3.
Classroom sessions
Before auditing an IDC, you will go through Knowledge Development sessions with your Course Director :
a. Course Orientation
b. Instructor Development Standards, Procedures and Curriculum
c. How to Organize and Conduct the PADI Assistant Instructor Course
d. The Psychology of Evaluation and Counseling
During the IDC audit you will present a knowledge development session with a score of at least 4.0.
You will evaluate and score the instructor candidates presentations, trying to match the scores of your Course Director.
In-water sessions
During the IDC audit you will do a confined water teaching presentation with a score of at least 4.0.
You will evaluate and score the instructor candidates confined water and open water presentations, trying to match the scores of your Course Director.
You will discuss the evaluation of the instructor candidates with your Course Director and give positive feedback to the candidates, (hopefully) seeing their performance and conficdence improve towards the IE.
Instructor Exam
As a new IDC Staff Instructor, you are allowed to observe the orientation and closing sessions of PADI Instructor Examinations.
You will have a chance to meet other Course Directors, PADI Examiners and supporting staff.
