ASIA SCUBA INSTRUCTORS BLOG

PADI IDC candidates in the spotlight: Mona

In the Candidates in the Spotlight series, we talk to our IDC candidates about their experiences during and after the IDC.

This time, we talk to Mona from Germany, who landed a job as diving instructor in the Maldives, after her IDC!

-What made you decide to become a diving instructor and why did you choose IDC with Marcel and Asia Scuba Instructors?

Why did I decide to become a diving instructor ?!
I wanted to turn my hobby into a profession and of course to share my passion. I outgrew my job in Gemany and fought for my dream and I am proud that I did it.

Why with Marcel? As a German potato I wanted to do my IDC course in my language.
Since Marcel offered, I didn’t think twice about it, of course.

-How was your IDC experience? Was it what you expected?

My IDC experience was actually better than I expected it to be. I thought this was definitely not going to be fun. But luckily it was the complete opposite!

Despite the learning, we also had a good mix of fun! But of course, you can only thank the course director, his assistant Kevin and the other candidates for that.

-How was the instructor exam? Was it fun or stressful?

The instructor exam was a bit stressful for me. The practical part was a complete success for all of us. I had some difficulties with the theoretical part at the first try… but I didn’t give up, built on my gaps and succeeded in the end!

It’s pretty special that you landed a job in the Maldives, straight after your IDC. Working in the Maldives sounds like a dream! What is your favorite part of the experience?

Working in the Maldives sounds like a dream… and it is most of the time, but it’s not always.

You have to be aware that you are working on a small island. Depending on the resort, there may also be strict regulations.

Nevertheless, my best experiences so far have been meeting lots of new people and being able to pass on my passion to them, namely the incredibly beautiful underwater world.

Do you think a diving instructor can earn a good income? Or is it more about the lifestyle?

Being a diving instructor is more of a lifestyle. Unfortunately, you don’t become rich in the sense of money through this profession.
But definitely rich in experience!

Last but not least!

I would definitely like to thank Marcel and Kevin for this great experience and the great time we had together at the IDC. Especially the great group we were! It was a really good mixture of the necessary rigor and of course fun.

Even after the course Marcel is there for advice and support and that makes a teacher really special!

I can definitely recommend Marcel with a clear conscience and hope that he will continue to teach for a long time to come!
